Investigator

Prof. Dr. Ernst Feldtkeller (vice president ASIF, München) and Debby Vosse M.D. (University of Maastricht, Netherlands) in cooperation with Jon Erlendsson M.D. (consulting rheumatologist of AS society in Denmark, Horsens, Denmark), Piet Geusens M.D. (Professor of Rheumatology, Limburg University Center, Diepenbeek, Belgium and University of Maastricht, Netherlands) and Sjef van der Linden M.D. (Professor of Rheumatology, University of Maastricht, Netherlands).

Method

Questions on vertebral fractures were included in the questionnaire published in the in June 2000 newsletters of the AS societies in Germany and Austria (see above). 1080 AS patients responded. A second questionnaire with detailed questions on vertebral fractures to be answered only by patients with a history of a vertebral fracture was printed in the membership journals of the AS societies in Germany and Denmark in June 2001. 77 patients responded. X rays of some of the fractures could be inspected.
